KK DANCE
History
Established over 20 years ago, we have welcomed hundreds of children and adults through our doors teaching the fundamentals across multiple dance styles. KK Dance was established by Karen Kirk in 1998 and has since become a family run affair! KK Dance offers classes in varying dance styles for students to enjoy. For children and teenagers, classes are held in Ballroom, Latin American and Disco/Freestyle whilst for adults the focus turns to Ballroom and Latin American. Karen is a long standing member of the National Association of Teachers of Dancing (NATD), having trained at the Peggy Payne School of Dance, and holds her Licentiate in Ballroom, Latin American and Freestyle branches and Associate in Classical Sequence with the NATD. Although teaching weekly lessons to both children and adults is at the heart of what we do, we also pride ourselves on offering opportunities outside of their weekly dance class. |
Charity Social Event
Our Charity Social Event has become a standout event in the KK Dance calendar. Each year we hold a Charity Social Event for school members, their families and their friends to raise money for a local charity chosen by pupils. At the event school members showcase some of their dancing routines, we have some fun competitions, a raffle and a cake sale.
At out last charity event, held in December 2019, we raised £750 for the Paediatric Neurosurgical Ward at the QMC. Donald Macarthur, Paediatric Neurosurgeon came to receive the cheque which was presented by some of our pupils.
Due to Covid-19, we weren't able to hold our 2020 charity event. In replace of the face-to-face event, we decided to hold free of charge Zoom classes over the October/November period, asking for voluntary donations to go towards raising money for charity. We managed to raise £310 through very generous donations from the children/parents which was donated to the Paediatric Neurosurgical Ward at the QMC.
Throughout the years we have also raised money for, Autism East Midlands, Children and Young People’s section of the Guide Dogs Association, Children’s Cancer Ward at Nottingham Children’s Hospital, QMC, Rainbows Children's Hospice and the Children's Renal Unit at the QMC.
Since starting to run this event we have raise over £5000 for local charities in and around Nottingham. Being a small dance school, this is something we are all extremely proud of.

Medal Tests
School members have the opportunity to take medal tests through the National Association of Teachers of Dancing (NATD). Those who wish to take medal tests progress through the NATD Medal Test System, gaining certificates and awards. School members who choose not to take medal tests will still progress in the same way as those who do. |
Competitions
School members also have the opportunity to attend local Ballroom and Latin American competitions taking place throughout the year. In addition to attending local competitions, after successfully qualifying for the NATD Medallist of the Year Competition, school members have the opportunity to dance at the NATD Medallist of the Year Grand Finals, held at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. |
